The times, they are a-changin’
Steve Jobs isn’t the only one who can quote Dylan.
… speaking of Steve Jobs and changin’ times… I may be bumping into Mr. Jobs at the local Cupertino Starbucks before long…
Next month I’m heading to California… Silicon Valley to be specific.
After over 3 years of saying “I’m not interested” to Google, I’ve accepted their offer of a position. I’m not sure how public I can be yet about what exactly I’ll be doing… but it will leverage my experience and expertise in Agile Development, TDD, Ruby, Rails, and RSpec.
This change is not without some sacrifices, but we think it’s the right move at this time. One downside is having to end my association with Obtiva… which I have greatly enjoyed. They’re great people and great to work with.
One benefit is that I won’t be having to focus so much on billable hours to cover the bills anymore… so there should be more time for things like RSpec and writing.

Welcome back to the States, and welcome to Cali ;-) Maybe we’ll run into each other some time. Although I am a few hours south in Ventura County, I do sometimes make it up that way for conferences or training. Or, perhaps you will make it down to the Santa Monica office some time.

Congratulations, Dave, and good luck. From a purely selfish perspective, I’m happy to hear that you’ll soon be having more time to put into RSpec and writing…

Welcome to Google. I’m glad you decided to join us (I was in your Rails/TDD class in NYC.)

Congrats on the new job Dave. I look forward to seeing some interesting Ruby work coming out of the Google Labs now…:)

Congrats! …but I thought Ruby wasn’t allowed at Google? :)

This is big news indeed; just a of couple months after the announcement that Steve Yegge ported Rails to JavaScript because Google wasn’t open to Ruby. Best wishes!
By the way, Merlin is great fun.

Congratulations, Dave
I’ve been playing with RSpec for a few months now and I think the job you guys have done is great.
Good luck!

Best of lucks in Google, I’ve heard it’s a great place to be :-). Hope you can introduce the power of Ruby to those guys :-)… it may seem the only thing they use in scripting is Python (Which is not bad at all either).

Congratulations and welcome to Google. I was one of the students in your recent class in New York. I know you’ll enjoy yourself, and I’ll know who to bug when I need help with Ruby TDD ;)

Apparently (so I’ve heard) you can get into trouble for using ruby… but there are some folks that see it being worth the risk :)
The bulk of my work will be agile/tdd oriented.. in whatever language.
